Description
Boston, MA | Hybrid
We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to lead the investment process at a growing independent wealth management firm. This role combines portfolio strategy, manager selection, and investment committee leadership with direct client and prospect responsibilities.
You will own the firm's model portfolios, asset allocation, and manager research, and chair the investment committee. You will also work directly with clients and prospects: reviewing their current investments, managing equity compensation, weighing tax considerations, and explaining portfolio decisions in clear, plain language.
We are looking for someone who can think like a CIO, communicate confidently with clients, and enjoys educating people about their investments.
What You'll Do
Portfolio Management & Investment Strategy
Build, maintain, and improve the firm's model portfolios across risk levels.
Set strategic asset allocation and direct tactical tilts based on research and market conditions.
Research, select, and monitor managers and funds, including fees, performance, and active-versus-passive decisions.
Incorporate tax considerations into every recommendation, including asset location, gain management, loss harvesting, and transition planning.
Strong understanding of how wealth management and the portfolio fits in a comprehensive financial and estate plan
Client & Prospect Engagement
Prepare takeover proposals by evaluating client and prospect investments and recommending changes with a clear transition plan.
Evaluate and directly manage client equity compensation, including RSUs, stock options, ESPPs, and concentrated stock positions.
Meet with clients to discuss investments, performance, portfolio changes, and reviews.
Serve as a trusted investment resource for advisors and clients, answering questions and turning complex topics into clear guidance.
Investment Committee Leadership
Chair the investment committee: set agendas, present recommendations, and lead discussion.
Encourage healthy debate and make sure dissenting views are heard and documented.
Communicate committee decisions and portfolio changes to advisors and clients.
Requirements
What You Bring
8+ years of portfolio management or investment research experience, ideally serving high-net-worth clients.
Experience building model portfolios and leading manager due diligence.
Strong working knowledge of tax-aware investing and equity compensation.
Confidence presenting to clients and to an investment committee.
CFA® charterholder preferred; CFP® or CPA a plus.
Experience with alternatives, including private credit and private equity, is a plus.
