Description
Wellspring is a multi-family office built on long-term relationships with client families across generations. We serve ultra-high-net-worth families across investment advisory, tax, estate planning, and risk management, and we're looking for a Portfolio Manager who operates as a trusted partner to those families.
The role owns public markets strategy, trading, and research execution, working closely with the CIO and partnering with advisory and operations teams.
Strategic Investment Leadership
Help shape the firm's investment philosophy, strategic asset allocation framework, and macro/capital market outlook.
Partner with the CIO to develop and implement firmwide investment themes and asset positioning.
Translate market views into practical guidance that weighs each family's liquidity needs, tax posture, and multi-generational objectives alongside relative performance.
Contribute to the evolution of the firm's investment committee process and governance framework as platform continues to scale.
Investment Management
Lead research across funds, sectors, and asset classes to construct and evolve model portfolios.
Direct client-specific investment research, onboarding strategy, and portfolio transitions.
Drive investment decision-making and ad hoc analysis, including closed-architecture 401(k) reviews.
Build long-term relationships with client families, understanding their values and legacy goals as well as their balance sheets.
Mentor and develop junior analysts, building a collaborative, team-first research culture.
Client & Team Communication
Partner with advisors to articulate portfolio positioning and investment rationale in client meetings.
Author investment notes and internal white papers that support communication across advisory and planning teams.
Bring warmth and presence to family meetings, comfortable across generations, translating complex portfolio decisions into clear, approachable guidance.
Collaborate closely with tax, estate, and planning colleagues so investment strategy fits into each family's broader financial picture.
Trading & Portfolio Oversight
Lead trade planning and execution across platforms and custodians, including DCA plan design tailored to client objectives.
Own drift-based monitoring and model rebalancing, keeping portfolios within client risk tolerance, objectives, and regulatory constraints.
Manage trade approvals, exceptions, and non-discretionary trade activity.
Risk Management & Portfolio Construction
Assess each family's risk tolerance and risk appetite and reflect the assessment directly in asset allocation and portfolio construction decisions.
Monitor concentration, correlation, and drawdown risk across client portfolios, flagging positions or exposures that drift outside policy.
Build risk awareness into client conversations, helping families understand the tradeoffs behind portfolio construction decisions.
Alternative Investments
Evaluate how private market exposure fits within each family's overall asset allocation, weighing liquidity needs, capital call timing, and correlation to public holdings.
Coordinate with the firm's private markets team so public and private allocations work together toward each family's target risk and return profile.
Monitor pacing and cash flow across public and private holdings to keep overall portfolio liquidity within policy.
Tools & Analytics
Build and maintain Excel-based allocation, pacing, and analytics tools supporting the investment team.
Maintain pacing models and liquidity forecasts tailored to the cash-flow needs of ultra-high-net-worth families.
Continuously refine reporting so advisors and families have clear, timely visibility into portfolio performance and risk.
AI development and proficiency.
Qualifications:
7–10 years managing discretionary and non-discretionary portfolios.
CFA required, CAIA preferred.
Strong analytical and decision-making capability, with a track record of research contribution or portfolio enhancement.
Proactive and client-focused, with the ability to work cross-functionally across advisory, operations, and compliance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust directly with client families.
A collaborative, team-oriented mindset, with genuine enjoyment of working closely with colleagues and families.
