LAPP Corporation plays a critical role in securing the retirement futures of more than 315,000 members across Alberta. As administrator and trustee of the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), we provide strategic guidance, manage risk, and oversee the $75+ billion LAPP fund.
We are expanding our Corporate team and are recruiting two Managers, Investment Oversight & Research. This position plays a key role in strengthening investment governance, policy development, and oversight of our investment portfolio and external investment manager. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of capital markets, pension governance, and public trust, alongside a highly skilled leadership team.

Requirements
What You’ll Do
As Manager, Investment Oversight & Research, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and evolving LAPP’s Investment Oversight Framework. Your work will directly support Board decision-making and help ensure the Plan’s investments are managed prudently and transparently.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Oversight & Risk Analysis
- Support the full investment manager oversight cycle on behalf of the Corporate Board and its Committees
- Review and assess portfolio performance, risk, compliance, and responsible investing practices
- Develop and maintain investment scorecards, dashboards, and analytical tools
- Conduct attribution analysis and stress-testing to assess portfolio resilience
- Provide independent analysis and reporting on AIMCo investment strategies and products
- Conduct in-depth investment strategy / product reviews
- Support enterprise risk management activities and financial statement disclosures
Policy Development & Capital Market Research
- Contribute to the development and review of the Statement of Investment Policies and Procedures (SIPP) and asset mix
- Research capital markets, asset classes, and emerging investment strategies
- Benchmark governance and performance against MAPLE 8 pension plans and other Alberta pension plans
- Research and adopt industry standards and best practices to enhance oversight processes.
Board Reporting & Education
- Prepare investment updates, briefing materials, and presentations for Boards and Committees
- Contribute investment content to the LAPP Annual Report
- Respond to Board and executive inquiries with clear, well-supported analysis
Stakeholder & Industry Engagement
- Maintain ongoing engagement with AIMCo and external consultants
- Participate in cross-pension working groups and industry forums
- Support stakeholder communications related to market and investment developments
What You Bring
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in investment oversight, institutional portfolio management, investment research, or consulting (pension plan experience strongly preferred)
- Experience working across multi-asset class portfolios and total portfolio oversight
Expertise & Skills
- Strong understanding of institutional investment products, risk management, and governance
- Advanced analytical and research capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including Board-level reporting
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders and service providers
Education & Credentials
- University degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field
- Professional designation such as CFA, CAIA, FRM, FSA, ASA, and/or a relevant graduate degree is highly desirable
